the Phone Call...

Ask me how I slept last night. Oh no, never mind, ask me IF I slept last night. After falling into bed, I just knew I would fall fast asleep. After all, I had stayed up past my normal bedtime by two hours, I was tired and sleepy. I must have been running on adrenaline all day yesterday, waiting for that final phone call--the one that said, "You can relax now, your husband is no longer inside an airplane strapped into a tiny seat that is WAY, WAY up in the air. The same one that is traveling around the world taking him farther and farther away from home". (Can you begin to visualize now why I'm not the one traveling to India?) Anyway, I tossed and turned for two more hours before falling asleep. My alarm seemed to go off extremely early this morning! I finally got my call around 8:45 a.m. (It was 7:30 p.m. India time). He will be going to work at that same time every evening and working 10-12 hours each day. Therefor, he will be going to and from work during the night-time hours there. I was not very happy, as this will totally mess up the photo ops I had planned for him! I asked him what the building looked like where he would be working, and he said, "I'm not sure, it's dark!" Well, we're going to have to do something about that!

His observations, so far:

  • Nice hotel, gated, full of security (the photo above is in the lobby)

  • Traffic is crazy, everyone drives by their own rules, lots of honking, gesturing, stopping and going, bulls walking on the sidewalk right beside traffic

  • Motorcycles weaving in and out of traffic between vehicles, all in a hurry

  • Had a bacon cheeseburger at one of the hotel restaurants, it was made with top sirloin and thick-cut bacon, like canadian bacon

  • He had been warned before traveling, about the water--DON'T DRINK IT! DON'T GET IT IN YOUR EYES! So, they told them not to expect ice. He ordered coke with his hamburger and they brought it to the table and poured it over a glass of ice. He was quick to ask about how safe it was. He was informed that it would be fine, served from the hotel. So---he drank away!

He should be able to email me from work now on a daily basis. We probably won't talk on the phone everyday--quite expensive! So I'll update as soon as I hear from him again.
